If an adoption was finalized on or after January 1, 1984, an adult age 18 or older can receive identifying information on the birth parents if the birth parents have given permission for their identities to be released to the child. Birth parents are able to receive information on the adopted adult age 21 or older it the adoptee has given consent for disclosure. If there is a medical necessity, the adoptive parents are able to obtain information on the birth parents for the child.

If an adoption was finalized prior to January 1, 1984, consent of disclosure is required by both parties.
