Adoption records in Kansas are open to adoptees that are 18 years or older. The adoptee must request their original records from the Clerk of the District Court in the county where the adoption occurred. An adoptee is able to request their post-adoption birth certificate. Proof of identity is required. The records are not open to descendents of an adoptee.

To obtain original birth certificates, they must be opened with a court order at the request of the adult adoptee. The adoptee must also submit a written notarized request. The fee for this birth certificate is $12. Check or money order may be made payable to "Kansas Vital Statistics."
