If the department is unable to locate the parents, the court may or may not open the records. Pre-adoptive birth siblings are able to search for each other if they are over the age of 18. Birth parents are also able to file to allow their identifying information to be released. Non-identifying information is available to adult adoptees and the adoptive parents of minor child. An adoptee is required to petition the court that adoption was finalized in to obtain an original birth certificate. Birth parents and siblings are allowed to request information be given to the adopted adult or the adoptive parents of a minor child if it is medically important. |
