Missouri Adoption Records Information

Missouri adoption records can be found with the following information. This information shows the necessary steps you must take to access sealed Missouri adoption records. Because adoption records are of a sensitive nature, they are often harder to access, as there are often legal requirements that an individual must abide by. You may also be limited to the amount of information that you can access by law due to age regulations. In Missouri, adoptive parents and adult adoptees are able to receive non-identifying information for medical reasons.

Adoptive parents and adopted adults are able to receive non-identifying information.

An adopted adult may request information regarding their birth parents. The agency will contact the birth parents to consent to release the information to them. If the adoption was finalized prior to August 13, 1986, the adoptive parents must first be notified and a search will only be conducted if the adoptive parents agree.

If the adoptive parents do not consent, their information will not be released and the birth parents will not be contacted.

Using the Adoption Registry, adopted adults, 21 or older, and birth parents may register. Adoptive parents must consent to the release of identifying information on adoptions completed prior to August 13, 1986.

An adoptee has to petition the court where the adoption was finalized to receive an original birth certificate.
