Adopted adults, 18 or older, may obtain non-identifying information.

Identifying information is provide through a confidential intermediary system with the approval of the Commissioner of Social Services.

Adopted adults, 18 or older, may use the confidential intermediary system to search for their biological parents. For those adoptions that were finalized after July 1, 1994, the biological parents and biological siblings can use the system to search for adopted adults, 21 or older, and adoptive parents of adopted adults, under the age of 18.

An adoptee is required to petition the court in which the adoption was finalized.
