Georgia Vital Records Search Information

Georgia vital records are available in all 159 counties.  These counties offer Georgia birth certificates, Georgia death certificates, Georgia marriage licenses and Georgia divorce records.  The Georgia vital records custodian may be located at the county health department, depending on the county, or they may be located in the probate judge’s office.  All of these offices are authorized to prepare copies of birth and death certificates as well as marriage records and divorce records and they are responsible for only those vital life events that took place in their county.

The state office in Georgia carries vital records dating back to January 1919.  If you require or records earlier than 1919 then write to the Vital Records Office in the county where the specific event occurred. A request for additional copies ordered at the same time is $5.00 per copy and additional birth cards is $10 each.

Georgia State Marriage Records Information

The Georgia Department of Human Resources carries centralized state records dating back to June 9, 1952. The state office issues certified copies of marriage documents up to 1966. If you have an inquiry before June 9, 1952, simply make your request to the probate judge in the original county where the license was granted.

There are not any recorded marriage licenses or applications at the state office after July 1, 1997.


Georgia County Marriage Records Information

The fee per copy varies.

Contact the probate judge and the county where the license was originally issued.


Georgia State Divorce Records Information

$2.00 per certification and a $.50 fee per page.

Centralized State records dating back to June 9, 1952. The state office does not offer certified copies and all inquiries will be directed to the proper Clerk of Superior Court determined by where the divorce was granted.


Georgia County Divorce Records Information

The county that granted the divorce would determine which Clerk of Superior Court that needs contacted.
