Michigan Vital Records Department carries vital birth and death records dating back to 1867.  Not all of the records were filed with Michigan, especially birth records before 1906 and death records before 1897.

Please make your personal check or money order payable to State of Michigan.  You can get additional copies of the same record, when ordered at the same time for $4.00 each.  You can confirm the current fees by listening to the recorded message at (517) 335- 8656.  You may also obtain information on vital records via the Internet at State of Michigan.

Copies of vital records can be obtained from the County Clerk in the county where the event originally took place.  Fees per copy will vary from each county.  If you require vital records of births in Detroit since 1893 and vital death records in Detroit since 1897 then you may contact the city of Detroit Health Department.
