New Jersey vital records are available through the registrar of the municipality.  You must know the place where the birth, death or marriage took place.  You can also request New Jersey vital records through the State Registrar or State Archives.  New Jersey divorce decrees are housed at the Records Information Center of the State Superior Court.  These records date between 1900-1989.  For records after 1989, you will need to contact the New Jersey County Court where the divorce was granted.

The State office holds records dating back to June of 1878. Additional copies of duplicate certificates are available and $2 if ordered at the same time. If the exact date is unknown, you will have to pay an additional $1.00 per year searched.
