New York vital records are available through various courts in New York. New York Birth and Death records are filed through the Clerk of the city or town in which the life event took place. These records are usually filed through the New York State Bureau of Vital Records. A New York marriage license may also be obtained from a town or city clerk if they issued the license. Since 1847, all divorce decrees have been handled by the Supreme Court in the county where the divorce took place. New York divorce decrees are sealed for 100 years. Counties will also be able to supply land transfer records, wills and probate record information. |
