The state office in South Carolina carries vital records dating back to January of 1950. If you require death records from 1821 and birth records from 1877 in the city of Charleston then contact the Charleston County Health Department. The Florence County Health Department offers ledger entries of Florence City death and birth records from 1895-1914. The Newberry County Health Department offers ledger entries of Newberry City death and birth records from the late 1800s.  These are the only vital birth and death records available in South Carolina.  You can order additional copies of the same records for $3.00 if ordered at the same time.
